Árón Taylor-Smith delivered one of the standout moments of the BTCC season at Brands Hatch this weekend, claiming a stunning race two victory – his first win in ten years – and completing a hugely successful points-scoring weekend for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport.
In just his second race weekend with the iconic team, Taylor-Smith produced an impressive performance across all three races, underlining his potential as a serious contender as the 2026 season gathers momentum.
After qualifying twelfth, Taylor-Smith immediately went on the attack, charging through the field in the opening race to finish ninth and secure valuable early championship points.
Race one on Sunday proved a tougher challenge, with wet and changeable conditions making for a demanding contest. Driving with composure and consistency, Taylor-Smith brought the car home in fourteenth, maximising the opportunity to fine-tune the Toyota Corolla ahead of what would become one of the most memorable races of the season.
Race two delivered everything the BTCC is known for – and more. In a thrilling, wheel‑to‑wheel battle featuring multiple former champions, Taylor-Smith produced a drive of real quality and control to take the chequered flag and step onto the top of the podium for the first time in a decade. The victory marked the fifth BTCC win of his career and sparked an emotional celebration within the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport garage.
Speaking after the race, Taylor-Smith said:
“I can’t quite put into words what this means. I promised my daughter, Oaklie, I’d bring home a trophy, and to actually deliver on that means everything. I’m incredibly proud of every single person in this team. The work that goes on behind the scenes, the hours, the dedication – days like today are for them.”
The reverse‑grid final race capped off the weekend in composed fashion. Starting eighth and carrying a significantly reduced TTB allowance as a result of his race two victory, Taylor-Smith was involved in several close battles before finishing ninth, completing a clean sweep of points finishes across the meeting.
Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport leave Brands Hatch with a race win, strong championship points and growing momentum as the team turns its attention to Snetterton.
