Árón Taylor-Smith Delivers Season-Best BTCC Performance at Donington Park GP

R50-backed British Touring Car Championship driver Árón Taylor-Smith enjoyed his strongest weekend of the 2026 season at Donington Park GP, securing his biggest points haul of the year for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport.

The Donington GP circuit played host to one of the most competitive weekends of the BTCC season so far, and Taylor-Smith was at the sharp end from the moment he hit the track.

Strong Pace from the Start

Taylor-Smith quickly established himself as one of the drivers to watch, finishing sixth in Free Practice before producing one of the standout qualifying performances of the weekend.

The Irishman topped the timing screens for much of his qualifying session before ultimately setting the third-fastest time in his group, earning sixth place on the grid for the Qualifying Race.

Although he crossed the line in seventh during Saturday’s Qualifying Race, the result did not fully reflect the pace shown by both driver and team throughout the day.

Consistent Results Deliver Valuable Championship Points

Starting seventh in Race One, Taylor-Smith immediately moved forward through the field, producing a composed and determined drive to secure sixth place. The performance was made even more impressive by the fact he was running the weekend’s harder option tyre.

He followed that up with another strong showing in Race Two, bringing the car home in seventh and continuing to add valuable championship points for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport.

Podium Fight in the Weekend Finale

The reverse-grid finale provided the perfect opportunity to showcase both speed and racecraft.

Starting fourth on the grid, Taylor-Smith was immediately involved in the battle at the front and spent much of the race challenging for a podium finish. At several stages he was even fighting for second place against some of the BTCC’s biggest names.

Displaying the determined driving that has become synonymous with his career, Taylor-Smith remained in contention throughout before ultimately crossing the line in an excellent fourth place.

The result capped a highly successful weekend and reinforced the progress being made by the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport squad as the season heads towards its conclusion.

Taylor-Smith Reflects on a Positive Weekend

Speaking after the event, Taylor-Smith praised the efforts of everyone involved in the programme.

“The hard work everyone has put in back at base really paid off this weekend, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved. To be competitive in all three races is no easy feat in the BTCC, so to be right in the mix throughout the weekend is a massive step forward.

We were fighting at the front and challenging for podiums in every race, which is exactly the reward everyone deserves for the effort that’s gone on behind the scenes. It’s shaping up to be a really strong finish to the season.”
