There was plenty of encouragement for Árón Taylor-Smith and MB Motorsport at Knockhill this weekend, with the latest round of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship highlighting the pace and potential of the Toyota Corolla throughout the event.
As proud sponsors of Árón, it was great to see him fighting hard in typically competitive BTCC conditions and, despite a few setbacks, come away from Scotland with plenty of positives to build on.
Front-running pace from the start
From the opening practice session, Árón’s Corolla looked quick around the challenging Knockhill circuit.
The car showed genuine front-running pace, with the team making improvements throughout Saturday and Árón growing increasingly confident behind the wheel. As qualifying approached, there was a real sense that a strong grid position was within reach.
Unfortunately, a wishbone failure during qualifying brought that opportunity to an abrupt end.
The mechanical issue prevented Árón from showing the true pace of the car and left him with a difficult task heading into Sunday’s opening race.
Fighting through the field
Rather than letting the setback derail the weekend, Árón responded exactly as you’d expect – by getting stuck into the racing.
The two opening races featured the trademark close, wheel-to-wheel action that makes the BTCC such an exciting championship, with Árón fighting his way through the field and picking up valuable positions.
The result? Two solid points-scoring finishes, providing a well-deserved reward for the pace and determination shown throughout the weekend.
Race Two was particularly encouraging. Árón once again demonstrated strong race pace and was closing in on the positions needed to feature in the reverse-grid draw for Race Three.
Contact with another driver late in the race unfortunately cost him the handful of positions he needed, denying him what could have been a fantastic opportunity to start the final race from the sharp end of the grid.
Plenty to take forward
Despite the challenges, the underlying performance at Knockhill was arguably the biggest takeaway from the weekend.
The outright pace shown in practice, combined with Árón’s performance before and after the qualifying setback, demonstrated that the potential is there to compete much further up the BTCC field.
An issue that had begun to develop during the weekend unfortunately resurfaced in Race Three, preventing Árón from making the progress he had been hoping for.
While it wasn’t the final result the team wanted, the weekend still provided plenty of reasons to be optimistic.
Speaking after the weekend, Árón said:
“There are definitely far more positives than negatives to take away from Knockhill. From the first session we had really encouraging pace, and I genuinely believe we had a car capable of fighting right at the front in qualifying before the wishbone failure.
“The races were exactly what you would expect in the BTCC – tough, hard but fair battles throughout – and it was great to come away with two solid points finishes.
“It’s frustrating that we couldn’t finish the weekend as strongly as we wanted in Race Three, but the pace is clearly there. Homework will be done back at the workshop ahead of Donington to give us an even better chance.”
Next stop: Donington Park
Now, attention turns to Donington Park GP for the next round of the BTCC.
It’s a circuit that has been kind to Árón in the past, producing his strongest result of the 2025 season. With the pace shown at Knockhill providing a significant confidence boost, Árón and the team will head to Leicestershire looking to turn that speed into the results they know are possible.

The pace is there. The fight is there. Now it’s time to turn it into results.
