Taylor-Smith Shows Front-Running Pace at Silverstone Ahead of BTCC Finale

The penultimate weekend of the 2026 British Touring Car Championship delivered plenty of excitement for Árón Taylor-Smith, who produced one of his strongest performances of the season at Silverstone. Competing for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, Taylor-Smith demonstrated impressive speed and racecraft throughout the weekend, proving to be the fastest Corolla driver on track despite the circuit’s characteristics not naturally favouring the hatchback package.

After a challenging start in practice, the team made significant progress ahead of qualifying. Taylor-Smith secured ninth place on the grid, an impressive achievement around Silverstone’s fast National Circuit and a clear sign of the pace available in the car.
That speed translated into solid results on race day. Race One saw the Irishman convert his qualifying position into a top ten finish, maintaining strong pace throughout the contest.
Race Two brought one of the standout moments of the weekend. Taylor-Smith produced a spectacular double overtake at Turn Two, passing both Gordon Shedden and Mikey Doble in a move that perfectly showcased the aggressive yet calculated racing style that BTCC fans love to see. The move helped propel him to a strong seventh-place finish and another valuable points haul.
However, the highlight was still to come.
A reverse-grid draw placed Taylor-Smith third on the grid for Race Three, and he made the opportunity count immediately. Launching brilliantly off the line, he surged into the lead and headed the BTCC field around Silverstone in a memorable moment for the team and supporters alike.
Although worsening weather conditions made the latter stages of the race increasingly difficult, Taylor-Smith continued to battle hard and secured another points-scoring finish, crossing the line in eighth place.
Reflecting on the weekend, Taylor-Smith highlighted the team’s performance and the pace shown throughout all three races, taking confidence from being the quickest Corolla driver at a venue that was always expected to present challenges.
With momentum building, attention now turns to the BTCC season finale at Brands Hatch. The circuit already holds special significance for Taylor-Smith, who claimed a race victory there earlier this season and secured his first-ever BTCC win on the Grand Prix layout. The team will now be aiming to carry their Silverstone form into the final weekend and finish 2026 on a high.
