Manufacturing Sector Case Study #1: Website Design For Bosworth Plastics

The Client:

Bosworth Plastics is an ISO-accredited manufacturing business based in Leicestershire.

Since its inception in 1997, the company has served clients across the UK and beyond, providing a wide range of specialist plastic injection moulding services.

In July 2023, Bosworth Plastics contacted us to ask if we could design a new website for them from scratch within just 4 weeks, as their existing website provider would take the site offline at the end of August 2023 unless Bosworth Plastics made a substantial payment.

Due to the significant expense this would involve – alongside the fact their old website was outdated and in dire need of a refresh – Bosworth Plastics instead asked us for a quote to build a brand new website with a far more modern and professional feel.

Our quote was much less than the figure demanded by the old website provider to simply keep the existing, outdated website online, which meant that Bosworth Plastics had no hesitation in accepting our quote, and so the work on a new website began.

The Process:

The brief we received from Bosworth Plastics was for a website that would function as a shop window for their services and technical knowledge, while highlighting the technology they had at their factory base. They also requested that the site be presented in a crisp, clear, and modern way that grabbed attention and was easy to navigate.

It was also key that the website was completed and online within 4 weeks, or else Bosworth Plastics would be left with no digital presence once their old site went offline.

Due to the short timescale, we swiftly travelled to Leicestershire to meet with Bosworth Plastics and take high-quality images of their factory setup and manufacturing technology as the first step in our website creation process.

When taking the pictures, we were sure to capture lots of blue colours throughout the images as this would match Bosworth Plastics’ branding scheme. We also ensured that most of the images were in landscape format, as these would look better when displayed on the website.

Next, we offered to redraw Bosworth Plastics’ existing low-resolution logo using our software tools so that it would be available as a high-resolution version suitable for use on the website and other platforms. We provided this service as a complementary extra that we didn’t charge for, making it a bonus that Bosworth Plastics were only too happy to receive!

With the images and logo ready, and the brief to work from, we then created the layout of the website.

As per the client brief, we ensured the layout had a modern, crisp feel that showcased Bosworth Plastics’ services, manufacturing technology, and factory base, through the effective use of the images we had taken. Throughout this step, we made sure that the website remained easy to navigate, and that it featured lots of blues and whites to match the colours of Bosworth Plastics’ branding.

As we do with all our websites, we carried out this design work on a ‘test site’ that is not available to the general public, but which the client can view when we send them the links directly.

Throughout this design process, work proceeded smoothly, as whenever we finished work on an individual page of the website and sent it to Bosworth Plastics for approval, it would be approved the same day with no amendments requested!

This helped massively with getting the website completed and online within the tight 4-week timescale.

Once the layout of all the pages was complete, at the client’s request we then handled the process of creating the text content for the website. This is another factor that helped us deliver the finished site within a short turnaround time, as we were able to handle producing the content ourselves, instead of waiting for the client to create it and then send it over to us.

Once all the text content had been added to the website, its desktop version was nearly complete. This meant it was time to begin optimising the website for mobile devices – a vital step considering that these account for over 55% of global website traffic.

By the time we were done, the new Bosworth Plastics website looked great across desktop, mobile, and tablet devices!

Although we were now nearing the end of the website creation process, there were still a few important aspects to get right.

For instance, we made sure that the website was secured with an SSL certificate, as this would keep website visitors safe and protect their details while they were using the site. We also added a Privacy Policy page and a Cookies banner to ensure the website complied with relevant data protection regulations.

Finally, we put the entire website through a thorough proofreading process to ensure that any spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, or functionality issues were identified and corrected before the site went live.

Once this had been done, we asked Bosworth Plastics to have a final look through the website to see if they wanted any changes made to it. Once they had given us their final approval of the site, it was time to make it live for the whole world to see!

From start to finish, our website creation process was completed within the 4-week timescale, showcasing our ability to complete complex projects by tight deadlines, all while delivering a consistently high-quality service without incurring budget overruns.

The Results:

Bosworth Plastics were ‘really pleased’ with the finished website, feeling that it thoroughly fulfilled their brief of a modern, professional website with a crisp feel that allowed users to easily navigate through their services and technological capabilities.

In fact, Bosworth Plastics were so keen to promote their new website to as wide an audience as possible, that they commissioned us to deliver an SEO campaign for them.

Within the first 6 months, this SEO campaign has already increased the number of clicks that the website is receiving from the Google search results by 49%, while the number of search impressions has increased by 244%.
